Several months ago I was offered a smaller (ca A5) portfolio made by W. Collin. Of course I said yes, and purchased it, in particular because of the overall design, the modeled leather, and the photograph of the pair. The date on the front didn't hurt either.

While looking at the portfolio under natural light, I noticed that the vines had a greenish tint to them, so pulled out my very modest UV-light. The vines really do seem to have been colored. I wonder if this is the method of coloring leather that was patented by W. Collin in 1900?
